We are here for you.
Life is full of challenges.
Sometimes we get overwhelmed with stress such as work responsibilities, taking care of the family, and worrying about the future. Sometimes our relationships struggle, leaving us feeling lonely and isolated. Sometimes we face loss, whether that is the loss of a loved one, a career, or even a sense of purpose.
Many of us get stuck trying to manage challenges like these on our own.
But it does not have to be that way; we can do this together.
New Beginnings Psych was founded to help people just like you overcome whatever challenge life has thrown your way through individual therapy. No one should have to struggle and suffer in silence. You deserve a “new beginning,” and we want to help make that happen.
What is therapy?
Psychotherapy, also referred to as, “therapy,” “talk therapy,”or “counseling” is a standard treatment for emotional turmoil and relationship problems. Individual therapy is all about working one-on-one with an expert as you work to achieve a better, more meaningful life. The focus is entirely on you, your life, and your goals. Each session is completely confidential and tailored to your needs as an individual.
Do I really need therapy?
Anyone can benefit from therapy! All of us have room to grow, improve, and better our lives. However, many people come to therapy because life is not going so well:
- Anxiety, stress, or worry
- Panic attacks
- Relationship and marital problems
- Feeling depressed, overwhelmed, or lost
- Isolation or loneliness
- Difficulty with sleep
- Traumatic life events (such as abuse or a severe accident)
- Anger and irritability
Sometimes the best way to determine if therapy is urgently needed is to ask yourself if you (or someone you care about) is experiencing one of the “four D’s”: Distress, Dysfunction, Danger, or Deviance.
Ask yourself, do your symptoms cause you distress, discomfort, or pain? Life may feel unbearable because of feelings of sadness, worry, or hopelessness. Next, ask if something is what is happening causing dysfunction, or problems in your life. For example, nervousness and worry may keep you from getting proper sleep, doing well on a test, or giving a speech in front of a crowd. You should also be aware of any danger that might be caused, such as suicidal thoughts or recklessness, as well as any deviant behaviors, such as breaking laws or rules.
If these four D’s do not fit your experience, and if you are not sure if individual therapy is right for you, that is okay! Consider giving it a try anyway, just to see if you like it.
How can individual therapy help?
Individual therapy can help people in three main ways: First, therapy offers a safe, judgment-free space to share and feel understood. You can have the chance to receive emotional support and care from someone other than a friend or family member. Counselors are also bound by confidentiality, which means that you can speak freely and know that your information stays “in the room.”
Second, individual therapy offers a chance to uncover new insights and develop psychological skills. As you begin to build a stronger sense of self-awareness and learn to move past the things that hold you back, your life can change for the better. You will get to learn essential interpersonal and coping skills to help you live better, be happier, and effectively handle life’s challenges.
And third, therapy gives people a source of motivation, encouragement, and hope. Your therapist believes in you and can recognize your inner strengths. Therapists also help you identify your values, select stronger goals, and move forward with a life that matters to you.
